Learn to Play Ukulele

 

The Ukulele Orchestra of Kamloops (UOK) will be offering introductory lessons this fall for anyone interested in learning to play the ukulele. These lessons are for “Beginners” who have very little or no experience with the ukulele, but who would love to learn! 

These sessions will be held at the Kamloops Seniors Community Centre (KSCC) 730 Cottonwood Ave, Kamloops, B.C.   V2B 8M6.

 

Topics: 

  • Parts of the ukulele. The names of the strings

  • One, two and three chord songs using chords sets {C, F, G7}  {G, C, D7}

  • How to strum and chord songs from simple to more complex.

  • Two or three strum patterns

  • Basic music terminology: key, chord, bar, note time signature (3/4 and 4/4).

  • Practice techniques and exercises to build confidence e.g. a little “homework”

  • Use of electronic devices and applications designed to manage song sheets, lyrics and chords 

  • Playing in a group.

Cost:

  • Registration: $10.00 (To cover the cost of  materials)

  • Room fee -  $2 per session with KSCC Activity Card ($20) 

or $3 per session without Card. Activity Cards can be purchased from Jennifer at the KSCC Office.

  • September 2nd, 9th and 15th and 30th

  • October 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th

**Membership in the Ukulele Orchestra of Kamloops is required for additional lessons and/or after attending three sessions of larger groups such as the Tuesday or Wednesday Circles.
